Jessica Pegula Playfully Justifies Taking Aryna Sabalenka’s Margarita After Miami Loss
Jessica Pegula found a lighthearted way to cope with her recent Miami Open heartbreak—by “stealing” Aryna Sabalenka’s margarita.
After suffering a tough loss to Sabalenka, Pegula admitted in a humorous confession that she felt entitled to take a small victory of her own.
“I had to take something from her. She’s taken three trophies from me, so come on, I can take her margarita,” Pegula joked.
Reflecting on her impromptu decision, she added, “It wasn’t bad. It had a nice tajín salt rim, so that was nice. I enjoyed that.”
Pegula explained her playful reasoning behind the moment:
“I saw her with it and thought, ‘You know what? I’ve had enough of this girl sipping margaritas after winning every match.’ It was ridiculous. But I also know she’s very outgoing and goofy, so it fit the moment. She’s been playing amazing, so kudos to her, but that was funny.”
The moment resonated with fans, with Pegula revealing, “So many people came up to me within two days and said, ‘I loved it when you stole her drink.’”
Pegula has suffered multiple setbacks against Sabalenka, including defeats in the Cincinnati Open and US Open finals last year. However, her off-court humor shows she’s taking things in stride.
