Jack Grealish has spoken candidly about the challenges he’s faced at Manchester City following his long-awaited goal in Wednesday’s 2-0 win over Leicester City. The 29-year-old broke a 15-month Premier League goal drought just 105 seconds into the match, calmly slotting home a cross from Savinho into the far corner.

The goal marked a rare high point in what’s been a difficult period for Grealish, who has struggled to recapture his form from the 2022–23 season—when he played a key role in City’s historic treble-winning campaign.

Since then, injuries, inconsistent playing time, and personal challenges have hampered his progress. As he nears the end of his fourth season at the Etihad, questions continue to swirl about his future at the club.

Speaking after the match, Grealish addressed the pressure that came with his £100 million move from Aston Villa in 2021 and the misconceptions about his role.

“I know I could score more, but I bring more to the team than just goals,” Grealish said. “My best tally is eight goals in a season. I was never brought here to score 20 or 30. Even in my final year at Villa, I only scored six.”

“Of course I want to score more—there’s no better feeling—but that’s never been my main contribution.”

Grealish expressed his relief and satisfaction at getting a starting spot against Leicester, especially after being benched for the recent FA Cup quarter-final win over Bournemouth.

“I really wanted to play,” he admitted. “I’d featured in every other round of the FA Cup, so I was devastated not to start at the weekend. But I came on, played well, and felt I earned my place today.”

He dedicated the goal to his late brother, Keelan, who passed away 25 years ago, adding a personal and emotional layer to the moment.
