World No. 1 Jannik Sinner has publicly defended himself amidst ongoing criticism and social media attacks from fellow tennis star Nick Kyrgios, following a three-month doping suspension that has shaken the tennis world.
Sinner’s suspension, which stems from two positive tests for the banned substance clostebol in March 2024, sparked major debate when the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) ruled that the Italian bore “no fault or negligence.” However, after the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) appealed for a harsher penalty, a settlement was reached in February 2025, resulting in Sinner’s current suspension through May 4.
Kyrgios, never shy about voicing his opinions, has been highly critical of both Sinner and the ATP’s handling of the case. Comparing Sinner’s punishment to other high-profile doping cases like Simona Halep’s two-year ban, Kyrgios argued that the Italian’s three-month penalty was too lenient. He has repeatedly taken to social media to voice his frustration, suggesting inconsistencies in the sport’s anti-doping enforcement.
Sinner, however, has stood firm in his stance, stating:
“I’m certain of how things happened. I’m innocent… What I want to do is play tennis and be very calm—that’s the end of it.”

Fresh off his Australian Open triumph earlier this year, the 22-year-old is eager to rejoin the ATP Tour at the Rome Masters and continue his strong momentum heading into the clay-court season, including Roland Garros.
