Brendan Dolan has praised the extraordinary talent of Luke Littler, even going as far as to say he’s on par with the legendary Phil Taylor. However, the Northern Irishman doubts the young sensation will ever match Taylor’s incredible trophy haul.

Phil Taylor’s dominance across his career is unmatched: 214 professional titles and 87 majors. Littler, just 18 years old, already boasts 13 titles, including the PDC World Championship, the 2024 Premier League, the Grand Slam of Darts, the 2024 World Series Finals, and the 2025 UK Open. Despite that rapid success, Dolan doesn’t believe Littler—or Luke Humphries—will be able to replicate Taylor’s legacy.

“The level of competition is just so much higher now,” Dolan explained, pointing to the depth and quality of today’s field compared to the early 2000s. “Even if Littler’s always in contention, the field is too stacked to dominate like Taylor did.”

Reflecting on his own record against “The Power,” Dolan added, “He’s up 17-1 against me. It’s not pretty. If I played him now, I’m not saying I’d win every time, but I wouldn’t have that record again.”

Dolan maintains that Littler is playing at a level comparable to Taylor’s prime, but regular matchups against other modern greats like Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries will limit his overall title count. “You can be brilliant and still lose. That’s the difference now.”

What Dolan didn’t mention, however, is how the modern darts landscape could work both for and against Littler. The sport has exploded in popularity, offering more prize money, global tournaments, and mainstream exposure than ever before. That means more chances to lift trophies—but also more travel, a hectic schedule, and less time for recovery. Even Humphries recently commented, “Playing too much can leave you emotionally flat.”

While Littler’s trophy cabinet is sure to grow, whether he can truly chase down Phil Taylor’s numbers remains to be seen.
