Darren Cahill Reunites with Simona Halep and Simone Vagnozzi in Monte Carlo: “Two of the Best”
Renowned coach Darren Cahill recently shared a heartfelt moment in Monte Carlo with two familiar faces — former world No. 1 Simona Halep and Simone Vagnozzi, trusted coach of current ATP world No. 1 Jannik Sinner.
Cahill, who guided Halep to the peak of her career, posted a photo on Instagram alongside the Romanian star and Vagnozzi, captioning it:
“Two of the best. 2 x Simo.”
A Career of Coaching Excellence
The Australian coach has long maintained a strong bond with Halep, even after their professional partnership ended. After parting ways with her, Cahill went on to join Sinner’s coaching team, helping elevate the Italian into the top spot in men’s tennis.
While Sinner is currently sidelined and will miss the Monte Carlo and Madrid tournaments, Cahill took the opportunity to meet with Vagnozzi — Sinner’s primary coach — in Monte Carlo.
Cahill Prepares to Step Away: “It’s Time”
Now 60, Cahill has announced that 2025 will be his final season as a coach on the professional tour. Reflecting on his decision, he cited a natural point of transition for both himself and his player.
“Every coach has a 3–5 year window where they can really contribute to a player’s growth. I’ve reached that point with Jannik,” Cahill explained.
“Players need fresh perspectives and new inspiration over time. The transition will be natural and friendly.”
“I’m 60 this year. It’s time to slow down, spend more time with my family, and enjoy life after tennis.”
Cahill leaves behind an extraordinary legacy, having guided both Simona Halep and Jannik Sinner to the No. 1 ranking in their respective tours — a rare feat that solidifies his place among tennis’ coaching elite.
