Luke Littler reveals he’s made major change to social media accounts as darts prodigy battles trolls amid Van Veen row
Luke Littler has taken steps to manage his social media presence, adjusting his settings to reduce exposure to abuse from online trolls.
The 19-year-old star runs his own Instagram account, where he regularly shares content about darts and football through his Stories—posts that disappear after 24 hours.
Since bursting onto the scene at the PDC World Darts Championship in December 2023, Littler’s following has skyrocketed from just 4,000 to an incredible 2.1 million, reflecting his rapid rise to global fame.
While that level of influence brings excitement and opportunity, it also comes with its challenges. Social media platforms allow users to disable comments on posts, and Littler made the decision some time ago to limit the number of replies he receives.
This move has proven particularly useful when he shares content supporting Manchester United, often drawing reactions from rival fans.
It also helped shield him from some of the backlash following his heated exchange with Gian van Veen during a Premier League Darts night in Manchester on April 2.
Speaking about handling life online, the two-time world champion said: “I’m always on social media—I see a lot.
“But even before Manchester, you can adjust your settings so replies to your stories go into requests.
“That’s been turned off for a long time. So people might be messaging me, but I’m not seeing it—I just see things when I’m scrolling.”
He also echoed comments previously made by Gerwyn Price, suggesting that social media backlash is often short-lived: “Like Gezzy said, give it 24 or 48 hours and it’s usually forgotten.”
Looking ahead, Littler is set to face his close friend Josh Rock in the quarter-finals of the next Premier League night in Aberdeen, as he aims to close the gap on table leader Jonny Clayton, who currently sits three points clear on 32.
