England international fires warning to Luke Littler as he backs darts star brother to overcome teen world champion
MARC SNEYD has Warrington right on target — and he’s even keeping Luke Littler smiling along the way.
But if Littler ever crosses paths with “The Bomber,” he might not have Sneyd in his corner.
The 35-year-old Wolves half-back is more used to splitting the posts than hitting treble 20, but he had the world darts champion buzzing after leading Warrington to a big win over Wigan Warriors.
Sport clearly runs in the family. Sneyd’s brother, Carl Sneyd, is making his own moves on the oche, now armed with a PDC Tour Card and going toe-to-toe with some of the sport’s biggest names.
That rise could even set up a future showdown with Littler — a regular in the South Stand cheering on his hometown club.
Sneyd, who honed his kicking skills in long sessions competing with his older brother at George Street Playing Fields in Oldham, said: “Carl’s not doing too badly.
“He’s got his Tour Card now, which is massive because so many people are trying to get one.
“It’s great seeing him play against the names he is. He’s beaten Michael Smith and Dave Chisnall in the last couple of years.
“But he hasn’t played Luke yet. He’s obviously the best in the world, but if Carl turns up on a good day, he’d give him a proper game.”
Sneyd also shed some light on the “Bomber” nickname: “I’m not even sure where it came from, other than it being my dad’s nickname too. It just stuck.
“To be fair, Carl was a really good rugby player as well. We used to go down to George’s near our house and have kicking competitions for hours.
“Every kick makes you better, and those sessions definitely paid off. He’s four years older than me, but he’d always remind me when he won — and I’d do the same.”
With George Williams sidelined through a neck injury, Sneyd has stepped up as Warrington’s main playmaker.
Despite the strong win over Wigan, he’s keeping things grounded ahead of their next clash with Huddersfield Giants.
“It’s a good start, but we’ve got a long way to go,” he said.
“We’re in a decent spot, but we’re not getting carried away.
“We’re staying grounded. It’s a long season and we’re still very early in it — you can’t look too far ahead.”
