Raymond van Barneveld fined and suspended over inappropriate behaviour and offensive language in latest Darts Regulation Authority case list

Five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld has been handed a suspended ban and fined by the Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) after being found guilty of inappropriate behaviour and using offensive language.

The DRA, the independent body that oversees disciplinary matters across tournaments run by the PDC, WDF, Modus and ADC, has released its first updated disciplinary case list since 2022. The report covers hearings dating from January 2023 through June 2026, detailing sanctions from both televised and non-televised events.

Several of darts’ biggest names appear on the list, including former world champions Rob Cross, Gary Anderson, Luke Humphries and Van Barneveld, as well as Cameron Menzies and Dom Taylor.

Van Barneveld was involved in two separate disciplinary cases.

The first stemmed from an incident at Players Championship 2 in Wigan last year, where he was found guilty of inappropriate behaviour and offensive language. The Dutchman received a three-month suspension, suspended for 12 months, along with a £3,000 fine.

His second offence related to damage caused to a hotel room after a Players Championship event in Germany. The 58-year-old received a formal warning for failing to report the damage.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in darts history, Van Barneveld won four BDO world titles before switching to the PDC, where he famously defeated Phil Taylor in the epic 2007 World Championship final to claim his fifth world crown.

Menzies punished for World Championship outburst

The DRA also confirmed the punishment handed to Cameron Menzies following his emotional exit from last year’s World Championship.

The Scot was given a four-month suspension, which expired last month, and fined £2,500 after repeatedly punching the underside of the stage table following his first-round defeat to Charlie Manby.

The outburst left Menzies with bloodied knuckles, which he wiped across his face before leaving the stage.

In the aftermath, Menzies publicly apologised for his actions, admitting he had reacted badly while dealing with personal grief following the recent death of his uncle. He stressed that his emotions were no excuse, praised Manby for his victory and said he did not want the incident to define him.

Taylor loses Tour Card after failed drugs test

Former Tour Card holder Dom Taylor also appeared on the disciplinary list after testing positive for cocaine and cannabis during last year’s World Championship.

The offence earned Taylor a six-month suspension, a £1,275 costs order and the forfeiture of £25,000 in prize money. Because it was his second anti-doping violation, the mandatory ban was imposed under DRA regulations, with the governing body determining that the substances had been taken out of competition.

Taylor also lost his PDC Tour Card as a consequence of the offence.

It followed an earlier anti-doping breach after the 2024 Players Championship Finals, for which he initially faced a two-year ban. That suspension was later reduced to one month after he completed a UK Anti-Doping-approved substance abuse treatment programme.

Meanwhile, Prakash Jiwa and Andy Jenkins received lengthy bans and were each ordered to pay more than £17,000 in costs after being found guilty of match-fixing offences connected to the Modus Super Series between 2022 and 2023.
