Peter Wright shows off shock new look as two-time former world darts champion competes in Austrian Open
Peter Wright unveiled a surprise new look at the Austrian Darts Open, stepping on stage with glasses alongside his silver mohican and trademark colourful shirt.
But the fresh appearance did little to change his fortunes as Snakebite crashed out in Graz following a heavy defeat to Martin Schindler.
The German cruised to a dominant 6-2 victory over the two-time world champion to keep his title defence alive in style.
Schindler produced a superb 97.8 average, while Wright endured another difficult outing with an average of just 82.42.
It continues a tough 2025 campaign for Wright, 55, who has slipped out of the world’s top 16 and is still searching for his first title of the season.
The eccentric darts star has also yet to reach a major semi-final this year as his struggles continue on the big stage.
Despite the one-sided result, Schindler insisted he still believes Wright can rediscover his best form.
He told Oche180: “Peter over the last ten years was one of the best players in the world and right now he’s not where I think he expects himself to be.
“I think he’s struggling, he’s fighting at the moment.
“He’s hitting even more fives and ones than I do, which is not a good sign.
“But I’m pretty certain it’s like riding a bicycle. The game was there once and you’re never going to relearn it.
“It’s still in him somewhere, but he needs to find it. If he does, everybody’s in danger.”
