Emma Raducanu began her 2025 season at the Australian Open, where she reached the third round before falling to world No. 2 Iga Swiatek in a challenging 1-6, 0-6 defeat. Despite this loss, the 22-year-old British player has already announced her next tournament: the Singapore Open, a WTA 250 event starting on January 27. This tournament will mark the return of the WTA to Singapore after six years, with the last event being the WTA Finals in 2018.

Raducanu had to withdraw from her planned season opener at the ASB Classic due to a back injury but rebounded in Melbourne with solid victories over top 40 players Ekaterina Alexandrova and Amanda Anisimova. Her projected seeding in Singapore is sixth, and she will face a competitive field that includes players like Anna Kalinskaya, Elise Mertens, and Alycia Parks.

In reflecting on her Australian Open exit, Raducanu remained positive, asserting that she had “no excuse” for her loss against Swiatek, acknowledging the Polish player’s superior performance. She noted that her back injury did not affect her play in the match and emphasized that she has received valuable feedback to improve her game.

This third-round finish in Melbourne marks Raducanu’s best result at the Australian Open, surpassing her second-round exits in previous years (2022-2024). With encouraging signs in her early matches this season, Raducanu will look to build on this momentum in Singapore and continue her journey toward recapturing the form that won her the 2021 US Open.
