In Paris, City led 2-0 early in the second half but suffered a shocking collapse, allowing four unanswered goals from PSG. This wasn’t the first time City had thrown away a lead; similar scenarios occurred in their 3-3 draw with Feyenoord, where they squandered a 3-0 lead, and in a recent 2-2 draw with Brentford after leading by two goals.
Grealish, who assisted and scored in the PSG match, said, “Usually, when we go two goals up, that’s when we’re at our best in terms of managing the game.” Yet, this season, something is off. The England star admitted he wasn’t sure whether the problem was a “confidence thing,” but City’s uncharacteristic collapses suggest a deeper issue.
City have built their dominance under Pep Guardiola on ball retention, relentless pressing, and game control, but their inability to hold onto leads hints at potential vulnerabilities in defense, mentality, or tactical adjustments. This emerging problem, exposed by Grealish’s offhand remarks, is one that needs urgent attention, as City’s ambitions in both the Premier League and Champions League could be derailed if they don’t quickly fix their game management issues.
