Jessica Pegula recently shared her thoughts about Madison Keys’ remarkable run at the 2025 Australian Open, revealing that she had been telling everyone to watch out for Keys even before the tournament began. Pegula, who knows Keys well from their time on the WTA tour, spoke highly of her fellow American’s abilities and form.
Pegula noted that Keys was playing some of the best tennis of her career and had all the tools to make a deep run in Melbourne. “I was telling everyone that she was in incredible form and was someone to look out for in this tournament,” Pegula said in an interview. “I just had this feeling she could really do something special.”
Pegula’s prediction turned out to be spot-on, as Keys stormed through the Australian Open, defeating several top players, including Iga Świątek and Elena Rybakina, on her way to capturing her first Grand Slam title. Pegula’s admiration for Keys reflects the respect and camaraderie that many of the top players share, even as they compete against each other at the highest level.
Keys’ triumph in Melbourne was a crowning moment for the American, and Pegula’s early confidence in her friend’s potential proved prophetic. Pegula has often praised Keys for her powerful game and ability to handle big moments, and it’s clear she saw something special brewing ahead of this year’s Australian Open.
