After winning the 2025 Australian Open title, Jannik Sinner revealed his game plan heading into the final against Alexander Zverev. The World No. 1 shared insights into his strategy, which ultimately led to a commanding 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 victory over the German.
Sinner acknowledged the challenge of facing a formidable opponent like Zverev, who had been in great form throughout the tournament. The Italian explained that he knew he had to maintain a high level of intensity and consistency to counter Zverev’s powerful game. Sinner’s plan focused on neutralizing Zverev’s serve and attacking from the baseline, particularly exploiting any weaknesses in the German’s movement and shot placement.
In a post-match interview, Sinner shared:
“I knew Sascha [Zverev] was going to be aggressive, especially with his serve, so the key for me was to stay solid on my return and try to put pressure on him early in the rallies. I also tried to move him around the court as much as possible and not give him too much rhythm. He’s such a strong player when he gets into a groove, so I knew I had to disrupt that and be aggressive in the key moments.”
Sinner also credited his team for helping him prepare for the mental and tactical challenges of the match. He emphasized the importance of staying composed during tight situations, particularly during the second set tiebreak, where Zverev was pushing hard to level the match.
“I was trying to stay in the moment, take it point by point, and not get too emotional, especially in the tiebreak. I knew Sascha was going to fight until the end, so I just focused on executing my game plan and playing my best tennis when it mattered most,” Sinner added.
The victory marked Sinner’s first Australian Open title and solidified his position as the top player in the world. His ability to handle the pressure and execute his game plan with precision showcased the maturity and skill that have made him one of the most exciting young talents in tennis.
