Emma Raducanu made a telling comment after her painful three-hour loss to world No. 101 in Singapore, calling the situation “ironic” as she reflected on her performance. Raducanu, who had been battling to find her rhythm and consistency, was visibly frustrated after the grueling defeat, particularly with her inability to capitalize on key moments in the match.
In her honest post-match assessment, Raducanu acknowledged the challenges she faced, citing both physical and mental struggles during the contest. Despite having opportunities, she couldn’t turn them in her favor, which made the loss even more difficult to accept.
“It’s kind of ironic that I’ve been working so hard on staying strong in long matches, and here I am, losing a marathon,” Raducanu remarked. “But that’s tennis – sometimes it’s not about how much work you put in, but how things play out on the day.”
The 2021 US Open champion has been on a journey to regain her form after a series of injuries and setbacks, and while she expressed disappointment with the outcome, she remained optimistic about her future matches. With her mother watching from the stands, Raducanu vowed to continue improving and learn from the experience, hoping it would serve as a building block for future tournaments.
“It’s painful right now, but these are the kinds of matches that teach you the most,” she concluded. “I’m just going to take the lessons from it and move forward.”
