Manchester City’s Stance on Jack Grealish’s Future Revealed

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Manchester City’s position regarding Jack Grealish, following Pep Guardiola’s public apology to the winger.

The 29-year-old has struggled for regular game time this season, a stark contrast to his key role during City’s treble-winning campaign in 2022/23. Injuries and the arrivals of Jeremy Doku, Savinho, and Omar Marmoush have seen him drop down the pecking order, limiting him to just six Premier League starts so far.

In City’s last two league games, Grealish has remained an unused substitute, but he made an impact in a rare start against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup, providing an assist in their comeback victory.

Guardiola’s Apology to Grealish

Speaking ahead of the Leyton Orient clash, Guardiola acknowledged Grealish’s difficult situation, apologizing for the lack of game time.

🗣️ Guardiola: “I’m so sorry they don’t get the minutes that maybe they deserve, but at the end, the contributions from Jeremy [Doku] or Savinho have been massive this season. This is the only reason why.

“It’s not personal, or that I don’t like Jack, or that I don’t have confidence in him. The manager has to sometimes select one player over another, not because of personal feelings, but because one player is giving more in the current moment.”

“Of course, I make mistakes and maybe he should have played in other games, but this is my world, my life, and players have to accept it.”

Is Grealish Leaving Man City?

Speculation has grown regarding a potential summer exit for Grealish, and Romano has confirmed that the winger is “no longer untouchable” at City. However, the English international remains committed to the club.

🗣️ Romano: “Grealish is giving his best for Manchester City. He’s not desperate to leave the club. He’s not creating issues or a problem. He’s a top professional.”

While City are not actively pushing Grealish out, they may be open to offers in the summer, especially given the emergence of new attacking options.

With Euro 2024 on the horizon, Grealish will be keen to regain form and minutes to strengthen his case for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. Whether that happens at City or elsewhere remains to be seen.
