Katie Boulter recently shared a lighthearted jab at her fiancé, Alex de Minaur, humorously suggesting that marriage equates to winning a Grand Slam while having a baby equals securing a 500-level title. Though she didn’t specify whether she was referring to WTA or ATP tournaments, her playful remark quickly prompted a witty response from de Minaur, who is currently competing for the ATP 500 title at the 2025 ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam.
On February 8, Boulter took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted:
“Get married 🟰 win Slam
Have a baby 🟰 win 500 📝📝📝📝📝📝📝📝📝”
De Minaur, now gearing up for a high-stakes final against four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz, replied with a cheeky question:
“You got any ideas you wanna share with me??? 😅😂”
The couple, who announced their engagement in December 2024, have been together since March 2020. De Minaur, an ATP top-10 player and nine-time singles champion, has been in exceptional form in Rotterdam, reaching the final without dropping a set. His road to the title match included wins over David Goffin, Jakub Mensik, Daniel Altmaier, and Mattia Bellucci. Last year, he finished as the runner-up after losing to Jannik Sinner in the final.
Meanwhile, Boulter has had a quiet start to the 2025 season, with the Australian Open being her only appearance so far. Seeded 22nd in Melbourne, she suffered a second-round exit to Veronika Kudermetova.
De Minaur Defends Boulter After Australian Open Criticism
Following her early exit from the Australian Open, Boulter faced online criticism. In response, she posted a humorous image of herself looking puzzled on the court, captioning it:
“My face when the keyboard warriors become experts in how to be a tennis pro 😂😂”
De Minaur was quick to show his support, playfully commenting:
“Hit the ball in the court…. Not that hard 😂”
Looking ahead, de Minaur will aim for his first win over Alcaraz in their Rotterdam final showdown on February 9. The Spaniard has won both of their previous ATP meetings.
As for Boulter, she was expected to compete at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open but recently withdrew from the WTA 1000 event. Fans will be eager to see when she returns to action in the upcoming tournaments.
