Camila Giorgi Takes on New Role in Tennis After Retirement and Tax Controversy

Former tennis star Camila Giorgi has made a surprise return to the sport—not as a player, but as an interviewer at the Argentina Open. Almost a year after her sudden and quiet retirement, the 33-year-old was seen conducting interviews with players at this week’s ATP 250 event in Buenos Aires.

From Tennis Pro to Media Personality

Giorgi, formerly ranked World No. 26, joined forces with IEB+, the title sponsor of the Argentina Open. She was seen interviewing players like Sebastian Baez and Guido Pella, asking about their favorite matches and even their preferred banking apps.

She also promoted a banking app, encouraging fans to download it with a special offer.

Retirement and Tax Controversy

Giorgi’s playing career came to an abrupt end in May 2024, but she never publicly announced her retirement. Instead, fans noticed her name had appeared on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s list of retired players. The WTA was reportedly unable to contact Giorgi or her family to confirm her status.

Soon after, Italian media alleged that Giorgi had fled to the USA amid a tax investigation. Reports claimed authorities wanted to question her about gaps in her tax returns.

Her lawyers denied all allegations, stating:

“No intention of escaping investigations or responsibilities, indeed there has always been maximum transparency and collaboration when required.”

Further controversy arose when Giorgi and her father Sergio were accused of stealing valuable furniture from a villa and leaving without paying six months of rent. Giorgi addressed the accusations on Italian TV, stating:

“We did not flee for tax reasons. I never fled, I never spoke. We did not pay the rent and we took the furniture? The house had no furniture, we brought it ourselves.”

New Life in Argentina

In November 2024, Giorgi confirmed that she had relocated to Argentina, where she has since built a new life. She also revealed her relationship with Argentine politician Ramiro Marra.

“I am not moving anymore,” she declared on social media.
“My boyfriend? I met him in his office, and it was love at first sight.”

What’s Next for Giorgi?

It remains to be seen whether Giorgi’s media role at the Argentina Open is a one-time gig or the start of a new career. However, her presence at the tournament suggests she is rebuilding her life in Argentina while staying connected to the sport that made her famous.
