Alexander Zverev has arrived in Buenos Aires for the 2025 Argentina Open, accompanied by his girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla. Before kicking off his campaign, the couple took time to soak in the local sports culture, attending a Boca Juniors match and celebrating their 2-0 victory over Independiente Rivadavia.

Zverev, fresh off his Australian Open run, where he reached his third Grand Slam final before falling to Jannik Sinner, faced an unexpected luggage mishap upon arrival—his bags were mistakenly sent over 8,500 miles to the Maldives. Despite the inconvenience, the World No. 2 put the situation behind him, fully embracing the electric atmosphere at La Bombonera stadium.

“Football in Argentina is in a different league ⚽️🇦🇷 Never experienced such an atmosphere before ⚡️🏟️⚡️ @bocajrs,” Zverev shared on Instagram.

Zverev Begins Argentina Open Campaign Against Dusan Lajovic

With Thomalla cheering him on, Zverev will open his Argentina Open run against Dusan Lajovic in the second round, following a first-round bye. The Serb secured his spot after a hard-fought 7-6(8), 7-5 victory over Robert Carballes Baena.

Zverev holds a perfect 4-0 record against Lajovic, including a 6-3, 7-6(5) win in their last encounter at the 2021 Paris Masters. Should he extend his dominance, he will face the winner of an all-Argentine battle between Francisco and Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the quarterfinals.

The German star is also on course for a potential semifinal showdown with Lorenzo Musetti as he chases his first title of the season. After Buenos Aires, Zverev will head to Acapulco for the Mexican Open, which begins on February 24.
