WTA Bans Spectator for “Fixated Behaviour” Toward Emma Raducanu at Dubai Championships

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has banned a man who displayed “fixated behaviour” toward Emma Raducanu, after security personnel removed him from the crowd during her match at the Dubai Tennis Championships.

The unsettling incident occurred during Raducanu’s second-round match against Karolina Muchova, where the former US Open champion appeared visibly distressed. Midway through the first set, Raducanu approached the umpire in tears, prompting an immediate call to tournament organizers. She then stood behind the official’s chair as security escorted the spectator out.

Despite the disruption, Raducanu fought back from 4-0 down to force a tiebreak but ultimately lost 7-6 (6), 6-4.

In a statement on Wednesday, the WTA addressed the situation:

“On Monday, Emma Raducanu was approached in a public area by a man who exhibited fixated behaviour,” the WTA said. “This same individual was identified in the first few rows during Emma’s match on Tuesday at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and was subsequently ejected. He will be banned from all WTA events pending a threat assessment.”
