      Emma Raducanu has broken her silence after being the target of a “fixated” individual during the Dubai Tennis Championships.

      The British tennis star was seen visibly distressed and in tears during her second-round match against Karolina Muchova, prompting her to approach the chair umpire. It was later revealed that a man who had approached Raducanu the day before was also spotted in the stands during her match.

      Reports suggest that Raducanu received a letter at her Dubai hotel on Monday, though it is not believed to be from the same individual who received a five-year restraining order for stalking her in 2022.

      Raducanu’s Response

      Taking to Instagram, Raducanu reassured fans:

      “Thank you for the messages of support. Difficult experience yesterday (Tuesday), but I’ll be okay and proud of how I came back and competed despite what happened at the start of the match.
      Thank you to Karolina [Muchova] for being a great sport and best of luck to her for the rest of the tournament.”

      Her post included a photo of a coffee with heart-shaped latte art alongside a journal labeled “Emma.”

      Despite the unsettling experience, Raducanu put up a strong fight before falling 6-7 (6-8), 4-6 to Muchova in a closely contested match.

      WTA Issues Statement on the Incident

      On Wednesday, the WTA released a statement confirming the events leading up to the incident:

      “On Monday, February 17, Emma Raducanu was approached in a public area by a man who exhibited fixated behavior.
      This same individual was identified in the first few rows during Emma’s match on Tuesday at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and was subsequently ejected. He will be banned from all WTA events pending a threat assessment.
      Player safety is our top priority, and tournaments are advised on security best practices for international sporting events.
      The WTA is actively working with Emma and her team to ensure her well-being and provide any necessary support.
      We remain committed to collaborating with tournaments and their security teams worldwide to maintain a safe environment for all players.”

      LTA Stands in Support of Raducanu

      The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) also expressed their support for Raducanu, emphasizing the need for player safety:

      “This incident once again highlights issues around safety that all players, but female players in particular, can face.
      We have support available for British players and have been in contact with Emma and her team following the events in Dubai.
      We have extensive security arrangements at our events in Britain and keep these under constant review.
      The tours have strong processes in place already, and we will continue to work together along with police and security providers to deal with situations like this robustly.”

      While shaken by the incident, Raducanu remains focused on her return to the court. With tennis authorities rallying behind her, efforts will continue to ensure stronger security measures at tournaments worldwide.
