Taylor Fritz Aims for a Comeback After Injury Setback

Taylor Fritz entered the 2025 season with high expectations, following a career-best second half of 2024. The American World No. 4 reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open, along with deep runs at the Rolex Shanghai Masters (semifinals) and the Nitto ATP Finals (finalist).

However, in both of his biggest career matches—the US Open final and the ATP Finals championship match—it was Jannik Sinner who stood in his way, denying him a maiden Major title and ATP Finals crown.

A Rocky Start to 2025

Despite his strong finish to 2024, Fritz has faced a more challenging start to the new season. He began well at the United Cup, but a shock early loss to Gael Monfils at the Australian Open disrupted his momentum. In addition, an untimely injury forced him to withdraw from the Acapulco ATP 500, even after arriving on-site.

Now, the 2024 US Open finalist is focused on regaining top form ahead of the Indian Wells and Miami Masters—two critical tournaments in his home country. Indian Wells, in particular, holds special significance for Fritz, as he claimed the title there in 2022 but was eliminated in the Round of 16 last year.

Fritz on Facing Sinner and Alcaraz

As he looks ahead, Fritz knows that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz remain the biggest obstacles on his path to Grand Slam glory. Speaking to TennisConnected, he reflected on his approach against the two young stars:

“The way I deal with them varies depending on the surface, the balls, and the speed of the court. On slow courts, I struggle to stay in the backhand diagonal, because both manage to put me in difficulty.”

“On faster courts, I try to be more aggressive from the baseline. I feel better against Carlos’ backhand, but when I face Jannik, I try to push more on his forehand.”

With the hard-court Masters 1000 tournaments in the U.S. fast approaching, Fritz will be eager to return to peak form and contend for another big title. Can he finally overcome the likes of Sinner and Alcaraz to claim his first Grand Slam or Masters 1000 title of the season?
