“He’s just a very honest genuine guy”: Jack Draper throws support behind Jannik Sinner to return stronger after doping ordeal
Jack Draper Backs Jannik Sinner Amid Doping Ban Controversy
Jannik Sinner will remain sidelined until at least May, with a potential return at the Rome Masters. While some have criticized the Italian over his doping ban, British star Jack Draper has taken a different stance—offering his full support instead.
Draper Praises Sinner’s Character and Work Ethic
Draper, who faced Sinner in a gripping US Open semi-final, where he fell 7-5, 7-6, 6-2, continues to hold the Italian in high regard. Speaking ahead of Indian Wells, he made it clear that he stands by Sinner, describing him as a genuine inspiration.
“One thing about Jannik is that he will definitely come back stronger. Obviously, this period and last year have been very difficult for him,” Draper told Sky Sports.
“I always try to send him my support and tell him that I’m very inspired by him and everything he’s achieving in the game.”
Draper also praised Sinner’s work ethic and demeanor, calling him a true professional both on and off the court.
“His work ethic, the way he carries himself—I think it’s very, very impressive. He’s just a very honest, genuine guy. I think he deserves all the success he’s getting, and I look forward to seeing him back on tour.”
A Contrast to Critics Like Kyrgios
Draper’s words stand in stark contrast to Nick Kyrgios, who has been outspoken about Sinner’s doping case. The Australian has repeatedly questioned the circumstances surrounding the ban, further fueling controversy.
Sinner, who ultimately accepted a suspension, is unable to train outside of Monte Carlo and will not be able to defend his Indian Wells title. Despite the setback, Draper believes the Italian will return stronger than ever.
With Sinner’s absence leaving a void in the men’s draw, his eventual comeback will be one of the most highly anticipated moments of the 2025 season.
