Former WTA Icon Weighs In on Coco Gauff’s Season Success and the One Crucial Element That Defines It
Former World No. 9 Coco Vandeweghe has shared her thoughts on Coco Gauff’s impressive season, highlighting one key factor that will determine how successful the young American ultimately becomes.
Gauff, who claimed her maiden Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open, has continued to make strides in her game, solidifying herself as one of the sport’s top players. With her powerful athleticism, improved forehand, and elite defensive skills, the 19-year-old has already made a strong impact on the WTA Tour this year.
However, according to the former WTA pro, Gauff’s consistency will be the defining factor in whether she can establish herself as a dominant force in women’s tennis.
“Coco has everything it takes to be a multiple-time Grand Slam champion,” she explained. “She’s got the mentality, the physicality, and a great team around her. But what separates the greats from the legends is consistency—week in, week out, across all surfaces.”
Gauff has already shown significant improvement in maintaining high-level performances, reaching deep into tournaments more regularly. However, the pressure of sustaining this level over an entire season remains one of the biggest challenges in professional tennis.
With the French Open approaching, a tournament where she reached the final in 2022, all eyes will be on Gauff to see if she can keep building on her momentum. If she can master consistency, she may soon be in the conversation with the all-time greats of the sport.
