Emma Raducanu has long taken a composed and focused approach to both her tennis career and life off the court. But despite her calm demeanor, public curiosity about her personal life continues to swirl.

This month, it was announced that Raducanu will pair with Carlos Alcaraz for mixed doubles at the US Open later this summer. The duo even practiced together at Wimbledon earlier this week, drawing attention from fans and the media alike.

Raducanu later confirmed that the session was organized in collaboration with Evian, as both she and Alcaraz are brand ambassadors for the company. Nonetheless, the friendly hit sparked speculation online about the nature of their relationship.

During a media session on Saturday, a reporter asked Raducanu directly about her dynamic with Alcaraz, referencing growing rumors of a potential romantic connection.

“There’s been lots of chatter online about your friendship with Carlos,” the reporter said. “Is there any truth behind the rumors?”

Raducanu quickly put the speculation to rest. “We’re just good friends,” she replied. That would be the final question she took for the day.

While Raducanu remained composed in her response, many fans were upset that such a personal question was posed in a professional setting.

“Extremely unprofessional to ask,” one fan commented online.
“Tennis reporters should stick to tennis,” added another.
“Honestly, what passes for journalism these days?” a user questioned.
“This is so cringe. For this to make it into mainstream coverage is just uncomfortable,” someone else wrote.

The identity of the reporter who asked the question has not been publicly revealed.

As for Raducanu, she’s focused on making a deep run at Wimbledon. After reaching the fourth round last year before falling to Lulu Sun, she’ll begin her 2025 campaign on Monday afternoon against fellow Brit Mingge Xu.
