Michael van Gerwen has issued a health update ahead of the next night of Premier League Darts, confirming he is set to return.

The Dutch star was forced to withdraw from last week’s event in Glasgow due to illness and has since missed four consecutive tournaments, including Players Championship 5 and 6.

Close friend Vincent van der Voort revealed he had been taking antibiotics, though Van Gerwen himself has not disclosed the exact nature of the illness.

Speaking to AD.nl, the 36-year-old admitted he had been struggling but is now on the mend.

“I’m feeling much better, but I was really poorly,” he said.

“I’ll be there on Thursday. Tomorrow I’m flying to Belfast. I’m not completely fit yet, but fit enough.”

Van Gerwen had made a strong start to 2026, winning the Bahrain Masters and finishing runner-up at the Saudi Arabia Masters, where he lost the final to Luke Littler.

He then suffered an early exit at the World Masters, losing his opening match to Damon Heta, before bouncing back to win the Premier League season opener in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Earlier in the campaign, Van Gerwen was narrowly beaten 7-6 by James Wade in the semi-finals of Players Championship 1.

Now, “Mighty Mike” will look to build momentum again as he returns to action in Belfast.
